Improving Customer Product Experience with a Bespoke App; Built to Control a Brainwave Lamp.

Roxiva have invented an innovative product, an LED lamp designed to alter brainwaves to put the user in a relaxed and meditative state. The lamp, used alongside Roxiva’s meditation soundtracks, can be used to de-stress, relieve anxiety, improve sleep and more. Roxiva required a bespoke app to allow their customers to control the lamp from their smartphone.

Defining the Problem

  • Users have to browse a variety of sessions to choose from on the Roxiva website, then manually select their desired session on the lamp’s screen before they can lay beneath it and start their session. This poses a pain point in the customer and product experience.

  • Lack of an organised community platform. Roxiva host a private Facebook group for customers and practitioners to ask questions, share experiences and communicate. Due to the amount of members and posts, information is often lost and hard to find.

Goals

  • Improve the customer experience by allowing users to control their lamp from their phone

  • Have all information about Roxiva, the lamp, sessions, and more in one place that’s easy to access

  • Move the Roxiva community from the Facebook group to a bespoke platform that’s easier to manage

  • Allow users to browse sessions and control the lamp from mobile phone

  • Quick and easy access to safety information

  • Keep up to date on the community and Roxiva events

  • Enjoy a variety of sessions to improve personal well-being

Challenges

  • Users will have their eyes closed during periods when they may need to use the app and cancel a session

  • Users having to adjust from a Facebook community page to the app

Outcomes

  • Users will receive updates and personal notifications, such as session recommendations, from the app.

  • We designed a dark mode and light mode to suit user preferences.

The Roxiva Lamp in use

Creating the Solution

To enhance the customer experience, we not only addressed Roxiva’s main concerns, we also considered the user needs and enhancing the customer experience further with the following:

  • Categorised sessions into certain focus areas which users will want to explore, such as: Sleep, Cognitive, Mood Enhancing and Expanded States. This improves usability.

  • A page dedicated to connecting the lamp(s) with the serial number and allowing users to name their lamp(s). We also included the option to add multiple lamps, as practitioners commonly have multiple lamps for group sessions.

  • We introduced ‘Your Journey with Roxiva’ where users can track their progress, patterns and earn badges for achieving Roxiva milestones within the app. This encourages users to consistently use the app, challenge themselves and share their progress in the community.

Whilst the lamp is in use, it’s important for users to be able to adjust the lamp brightness or stop it at anytime.

The challenge: users will have their eyes closed.

We approached the challenge by understanding how people naturally hold their phones and muscle memory. With the screen split in half for adjusting the brightness (top to increase, bottom to decrease) the lamp will adjust accordingly when the user taps the surface area. To cancel, we implemented the opposite action; instead of tapping, users will slide their finger across the screen.

Control at all times, even when eyes are closed

By understanding muscle memory, we designed a screen split in half for adjusting the brightness during use of the lamp, which is when users eyes will be closed.
